The Story.

In the spring of 2014, I decided to create a chess set as a gift for a friend. I wanted a legacy piece that could be passed down through generations. I found a set of plans from Woodworkers Journal that used three different types of wood and included drawer space for the pieces. I used AutoCAD to visualize the design and added textures and lighting in Autodesk Maya. I also designed a set of chess pieces to be 3D printed and wanted to get a good idea of how they would look paired with the chessboard.

The first video shows the process the project took, from plans to completion. The second video showcases the chess pieces' design. The pieces included in the final product were molded with clay, to be replaced with the 3D-printed set at a later date.
